It was widely reported that central Pennsylvania was devastated by rising flood waters along the Susquehanna River and connecting tributaries. At least 150,000 people were homeless, some 125,000 were ordered to prepare to evacuate, while 9 were known dead and others feared drowned. The Thomas family was not directly in the path of the harshest hit areas, clearly, they experienced flooding.
