I announced to my math class 1999 would be special. The world would reach six billion inhabitants. Not impressed. We, the collective we, cannot fully comprehend large numbers.

The world reached 6,000,000,000 people on October 12, 1999.

“Mr. Maynard, will this be on the test?”

I announced to my math class that in the future we will get our protein by eating bugs?

The world projected to reach 8,000,000,000 on November, 15, 2022.

Today, 2,000,000,000 people worldwide eat bugs.
