Contrast by W. T. Moore

1. Alone-

I welcome each new day I have to spend,

Hurry through my work, find time for play;

Laugh and sing, find joy in simple things.

The hours go too quickly.

Lonely-

I despair at endless hours I have to fill,

Work listlessly through all my chores - no time for play;

Weep and sigh, see everything as drab and dull.

Time passes so slowly.

2. Alone-

I meditate and dream new dreams,

Plan new things to see and do;

Enjoy great peace of mind and spirit,

Th stillness soothes and comforts me.

Lonely-

I review some old and broken dreams,

Regret the things of life which me by;

Am restless in mind and spirit, fearful, too.

The quiet depresses and saddens me.

3. Alone-

In a crowd, I feel excited,

Appreciate the talk and laughter of other people;

Hope for the pleasure of new friendships and ways.

I smile, and move forward to meet them.

Lonely-

In a crowd, I feel so isolated,

Resent the warm togetherness of others;

Wish for the comfort of old friends and ways.

I sigh, and turn away from all that’s new.

4. Alone-

I think happily of loved ones,

Feel loved and needed and secure;

Plan a pleasant visit or a gigt surprise,

Thank God for all my blessings.

Lonely-

I sadly remember departed loved ones,

Feel neglected, useless and unsure;

Stay in my silent room and wish for letters or a call,

Doubt God - my faith is weak.

5. Alone-

I treasure each moment that I have to live.

Lonely-

I lose irreplaceable hours and cease to live.
