Storyworth: What Places Can You Travel to Over and Over?

Never been much of a traveler. In my youth, my parents would take us to “kid friendly” theme parks, later camping trips, then historical parks along the east coast. Most of the time as we traveled, I slept in the backseat, on the floor. Highlights were the detours. Once we arrived at a destination, we walked, looked, and fed the reindeer. I remember once when the reindeer tried to eat my sister. We traveled to the North Pole, upstate New York, Adirondacks, and the east coast, filled with sites I would love to visit, now, but with health issues and a series of pandemics, unlikely.

After moving to Arizona, I have traveled back east twice, once to visit my mother in her last days. While there visited several historical sites in Washington, DC, but felt odd. Mom was in the hospital, comatose, while we did some sightseeing. She spoke one sentence. Another story for another day.

The second visit, Albany, New York, to attend a conference. Reminded me why I “hated” the east. Dark, rainy, cold, gray, old looking, dreary, you get the drift. The fall (autumn) is awesome and a thumbs up to snowy winter nights.

Once we arrived in Arizona we visited some sites, if mom was up for it (too hot, and fear of mountain roads), i.e. the Grand Canyon, which got me in trouble (another story), Mount Lemon and Rose Lake (snicker), Hoover Dam, Tombstone, Pinetop, Flagstaff, Yuma Prison, you get the drift. Too big to sleep on the floor now, so sat in the back seat reading comics or Reader’s Digest. Family trips.

Married, on few trips, seems life got in the way, i.e. money, jobs, parenthood, school, church obligations, etc. Revisited some of the above sites. After thinking, Norma and I got back east to visit Julie and Rich in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and spent some time in Tampa, Florida, before and after a cruise to Cuba. I would do again, health permitting. Pretty sure I gained at least ten pound while in Pittsburgh. Kinda wish we had rented a vehicle and driven up to Elmira, New York and surrounding area.

Finally: What Places Can You Travel to Over and Over Again? My interest in travel has waned. Always was a homebody. The overriding factor, health, although a favorite would be San Diego, California. Love the ocean, food, weather, and sights.

I have recently traveled a great deal for example spent several weeks in Tortilla Flat (Monterey, California) with Danny and his friends, with the daughters of Kobani in Syria fighting ISIS, and before that, Venice with a sketch artist, but most of my time is spent with the Voices In My Head.

Yes, put on my CPAP, lay back, close my eyes and travel through time. Some of these travels are unpleasant, places/events I prefer to avoid, while others are pleasant. Some I create, I recorded many in my memoir on my website, some posted, some remain in the cloud, unread for the future.
