Dad opens the pizza box and Snappy counts the pieces, one, two, three, … eight pieces. See mom, this piece is one/eighth of the pizza. NO, it is not! It is one of eight, not 1/8. A fraction is used to represent equal portions/parts of the whole thing. Either a set/area.
Fractions are foundational to many advanced areas of mathematics and science.
