Due Process, Denied

The day ‘due process’ died.


She walked, alone, homeward bound when approached by half-a-dozen mask covered, fellow citizens without warning, surrounded, physically accosted, handcuffed, and pulled to a waiting SUV with darkened windows.


No explanation required.


Driven to an airfield loaded on an awaiting plane, with others, blindfolded, abruptly seated, voices, begging for help, she listens to protest and sobbing. The smell of sweat and urine permeated the air.


Why? A visible tattoo, a biker, read a banned book, criticized power, mistakenly identified, a cat lover, an author, left-handed, rooting for the wrong team, or deemed inconvenient.


No explanation required.
