Years ago, employed by educational organizations, I was hired to evaluate materials. Curriculum to be purchased and used by hundred of teachers and thousands of students. I received materials (samples) to handle, evaluate, and eventually negotiated with sales representatives. Each pitch filled with why their product was the best. Armed with pages of data showing how their materials would ‘magically’ raise scores.

Early on, administrators advised me I should never, ever, accept ‘gifts’. Kickbacks, dud…, conference costs, plane tickets, upgraded rooms, and should we eat out, always pay my tab.

Yet, the SCOTUS justices garner thousands from gifts and advances.
